A Note on Divided Differences

چکیده
We obtain a new recurrence formula for sequences of divided differences. In a particular case, the recurrence formula simplifies the classical Newton–Girard identities relating power sums and elementary symmetric polynomials.

Ingham – Beurling Type Estimates
Baiocchi et al. generalized a few years ago a classical theorem of Ingham and Beurling by means of divided differences. The optimality of their assumption has been proven by the third author of this note. The purpose of this note to extend these results to vector coefficient sums.

Under general conditions, the equation g(x, y) = 0 implicitly defines y locally as a function of x. In this short note we study the combinatorial structure underlying a recently discovered formula for the divided differences of y expressed in terms of bivariate divided differences of g, by analyzing the number of terms an in this formula. The main result describes six equivalent characterizatio...
متن کاملRecurrence Relations For Computing With Modified Divided Differences
Abstract. Modified divided differences (MDD) provide a good way of representing a polynomial passing through points with unequally spaced abscissas. This note gives recurrence relations for computing coefficients in either the monomial or Chebyshev basis from the MDD coefficients, and for computing the MDD coefficients for either the differentiated or the integrated polynomial. The latter opera...
متن کاملA New Algorithm for Voice Activity Detection Based on Wavelet Packets (RESEARCH NOTE)
Speech constitutes much of the communicated information; most other perceived audio signals do not carry nearly as much information. Indeed, much of the non-speech signals maybe classified as ‘noise’ in human communication. The process of separating conversational speech and noise is termed voice activity detection (VAD). This paper describes a new approach to VAD which is based on the Wavelet ...
متن کاملNote on a differentiation formula, with application to the two-dimensional Schrödinger equation
A method for obtaining discretization formulas for the derivatives of a function is presented, which relies on a generalization of divided differences. These modified divided differences essentially correspond to a change of the dependent variable. This method is applied to the numerical solution of the eigenvalue problem for the two-dimensional Schrödinger equation, where standard methods conv...
